The Unseen World

If we could pull back the veil that divides the seen from the unseen, the natural realm from the supernatural realm, we would perhaps be amazed by the level of activity that is continually going on above us and around us. Whereas much activity is taking place in our lives, in our communities, in our world, in the news, there are battles being waged and other significant events occurring in “the heavenlies” and in the spiritual dimension parallel to the physical dimension. Our prayers, worship, works, and witnessing can impact and influence the transactions and activities that take place in the spiritual realm. Much or most of the time, we may be oblivious to these spiritual realities, but sometimes the Lord, by His Holy Spirit, May allow and enable us to “get a glimpse” beyond the veil.

Just as we can attune our physical senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch to be more sensitive and perceptive to stimuli in the physical realm, we can accentuate our abilities to be able to perceive spiritual realities. Fasting and prayer are two such successful, reliable, and useful tools to enhance one’s spiritual acuity, and so are ingesting and meditating on the Word of God. Some people actually have the spiritual gift of “discerning of spirits” (1 Corinthians 12:10, KJV), which enables them to literally see demon and angel spirits that are hidden from many of us. But even without having the gift of discerning of spirits, we can seek the Lord and undergo a range of personal spiritual disciplines to enable us to have greater discernment and perception in and of spiritual things.
